News came out that the Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks trade is back on. The Knicks have picked up steam again and are back in the running for the Carmelo sweepstakes. Carmelo has tried to play off any trade talks by claiming that he will be happy with whatever happens. George Karl, coach of the Nuggets, also says he does not want to get involved in the trade talks.
New Nuggets General Manager, Masai Uriji, has to be concerned when Carmelo said he would not reconsider his earlier decision of not signing a 3-year, $65 million extension. Uriji definitely does not want to let Carmelo slip away from him in free agency and not get anything in return (LeBron-Cleveland scenario), so he’s going to try to cash his cow right now.
What the Knicks can propose to the Nuggets is a package which would include Anthony Randolph, the expiring contract of Eddy Curry, and a first-round pick they would acquire from a third team. It is definitely quite a lob-sided trade for the Nuggets, who would really not be gaining much from the trade. Anthony Randolph is an under-performing forward, who some claim still has potential. For a guy who is 6-11, Randolph is a terrible rebounder and does not have any post presence, so don’t tell me he has potential. Eddy Curry, well he’s Eddy Curry. He almost averages more turnovers than rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks combined.
Carmelo is getting himself into quite a mess too if he wants to go to New York. He has a much better situation in Denver, with a team that can compete if everything goes right (it hasn’t gone right the last couple years). This could also be a case where Carmelo thinks he can recruit Chris Paul this offseason to create another Big 3 in New York with him, Amare, and CP3. New York, New York, it is the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
This is just an opinion, so please…Pardon My Bias.
