Project Fire Norv Turner

Simply put, the San Diego Chargers need to fire Norv Turner. I have never been a fan of Turner and was always against the firing of Marty Schottenheimer. Marty was never able to lead the Chargers to a playoff win, unlike Turner, but he was a hard nosed coach that made sure his players were ready to play. Under Schottenheimer, LaDainian Tomlinson was a beast and probably the best running back in the league, while Norv Turner’s scheme helped in the decline of this great player. The one great thing that has come out of Turner coaching the Chargers is the growth of Philip Rivers. Turner is an offensive guru and he deserves a lot of credit for the development of Rivers. Even with this fact, the Chargers can not win the Super Bowl under Norv Turner.

Under Norv, the Chargers have gone 6-9 in the first five games over the past three seasons. Yes, they have always recovered to make the playoffs but this really tells us something about Norv Turner. He does not have the ability to get his players ready. I have heard from sources that unlike Marty, Turner would allow players to skip practice and still allow them to play on Sundays. Marty, on the other hand, had a simple rule: you don’t practice, you don’t play. There are always instances when players make a big deal of minor injuries and ask to sit out of practice for this reason, then a few days later they are given the opportunity to play on Sunday. This allows the players to be lazy and unprepared, something that Marty was very strict about. I have heard from people that many players had lost respect for Turner and that they just did not believe in him and if true, would be a huge reason for their lack of Super Bowl striving success.

The Chargers have a very favorable first six game schedule and should of gone 6-0 through all games. Obviously they are now 0-1 and if they lose another game within those first six, they should highly consider getting rid of Norv. If they lose three, they definitely need to get rid of him. The Chargers have so much talent, and although their window is close to closing, with a hard nosed coach, they have the ability to finally get to and win the Super Bowl. So 2-4, consider firing Turner, and if anything worse than 3-3, FIRE HIM! I am sick of seeing the Chargers start slow and lose “easy” games. Norv Turner, get your crap together or get out of San Diego.

This is just an opinion…so pleaseĀ Pardon My Bias.
